Kurchi Dasgupta uses gouache and oil to recontextualise everyday reality. Drilling into the very core of the 'sub' or 'Ur'-conscious, she provides the viewer/participator with a fresh set of tools with which to perceive and interpret things around, and within. She grew up in Kolkata and did her postgraduation in Comparative Literature. She has also done brief publishing of books and CDs. She renders modern Bengali masterpieces into English and has done book illustration and screenplays. She was CEO of the Society for the Preservation of Satyajit Ray Films in India. She now lives in Kathmandu with her husband Kanishka and son Karno.
